Last November, history was made in US Congress as a record of women were elected to the House, with more than 100. Mostly Democrats, who now control that chamber, the new class includes several African American women. Pursuing its tradition, the Congressional Black Associates(CBA) celebrated, Tuesday February 26, the annual trailblazer awards in honor of the most diverse congress ever by highlighting the work of black women on capitol hill.
Attendees included Ayanna Pressley, the first female African American elected to Congress from New England, representing the Massachusetts’s 7th congressional district.
Speaking to reporter Ben Bangoura, a spokesperson for CBA has this to say about the organization’s work on behalf of black women.
